FBI Raids Homes of Adams Aides + NYC Comptroller Launches Employer Violations Dashboard

FBI agents raided the homes of several top aides to Mayor Eric Adams, including the NYPD commissioner Edward Caban, the Deputy Mayor for Public Safety Philip Banks, and the Schools Chancellor David Banks. The reason for the raids is not currently public, but they are said to be entirely separate from previous raids of Adams administration members over the past year.
Several City Council members are calling for Commissioner Caban’s resignation in the aftermath of the raid.
A top aide to Governor Kathy Hochul was charged with several counts of fraud and is accused of being an undercover Chinese agent. Governor Hochul and former Governor Andrew Cuomo are blaming each other for hiring the aide.
New York Democrats are increasingly worried that an abortion rights referendum will fail due to anti-trans attacks from conservatives.
The office of Comptroller Brad Lander has launched an Employer Violations dashboard to track NYC labor violations. Among the most frequent offenders on the dashboard’s “Employer Wall of Shame” are Amazon, Uber, and Lyft.
A 2022 state-wide referendum made $4.2 billion available for large state climate projects. So far, only 2% of the allocated money has gone to projects in NYC.
Migrants staying in NYC shelters are having trouble getting their mail, which often includes immigration documents or work permits.
