A memo from the City’s Department of Social Services, uncovered by Hell Gate, ordered city workers to give federal immigration agents access to shelters without a warrant, if they felt threatened. A union representing security officers for city-owned facilities denounced the memo as “inhumane.”
State Attorney General Letitia James sent a letter to healthcare providers in NY State reminding them that it is illegal under state law to deny healthcare services to transgender patients, after reports that NYU Langone and Mount Sinai have cancelled appointments in response to the Trump administration’s executive orders.
Governor Kathy Hochul and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries announced plans to change New York law so they could slow down a House special election in a red upstate district. After outcry from Republicans, they seem to have abandoned the plan.
New data shows that since the implementation of congestion pricing, subway ridership is up, crime on the subway is down, and traffic fatalities have dropped by 44%.
A new report from the City Comptroller’s office reveals that 90% of City Hall contract payments to non-profits arrive late, which hinders non-profit services and functioning down the line.
After the mayor’s team cited vague health issues for Eric Adams’ light schedule last week, his team revealed that the mayor had a colonoscopy over a month ago and that he had follow up testing last week. Public Advocate Jumaane Williams was unaware of Adams’ procedure, even though the City Charter says that the Public Advocate is supposed to step in if the Mayor is unable to perform their duties due to sickness.
